PRC HomeThis is a featured page

The Pinellas Reading Council (PRC) promotes literacy and the enjoyment of reading in the Pinellas County community and schools. This is done in a variety of ways including awarding members scholarships to attend FRA and IRA conferences, distributing "Read to Me" t-shirts to local hospitals, purchasing and distributing over 200 books to All Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House, as well as sponsoring literacy events and professional development workshops. PRC is affiliated with the Florida Reading Association (FRA) and the International Reading Association (IRA).

This year marks the 50th year for PRC and the council has received the distinction of being the largest local reading council in America. It's hard to believe the council, started in 1959 by classroom teachers and principals, is still going strong. PRCs membership is open to anyone who is interested in supporting its goals. Board meetings are usually held alternate months. Check the calendar for exact dates.
